What Is EcoDiesel

What Is EcoDiesel

If you’ve heard of the Ram 1500 and Jeep EcoDiesel models, you’re probably wondering, What Is EcoDiesel? EcoDiesel is a powertrain system that maximizes horsepower and torque while utilizing every drop of fuel from your tank. It has more environmental friendly technology that makes the most out the power and efficiency in your vehicle.

EcoDiesel Engine

EcoDiesel is a diesel engine that has been used in Ram Trucks and Jeep vehicles since 2014. The EcoDiesel engine is made out of graphite iron, aluminum twin-cam heads, added standard Active Air Grille Shutters, advanced clean diesel technology and B20 biodiesel capability.

Ram EcoDiesel

The Dodge Ram 1500 EcoDiesel comes with a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine. This engine gives over 240 horsepower and 420 pounds per foot of torque. It also has a towing capacity of over 1,600 pounds. Additionally, it has a great fuel economy of 29 mpg highway, 21 mpg city on the 4×2 model. The 4×4 model has a 27 mpg highway and 21 mpg city.

The engine is built with components that work to ensure that the Dodge Ram passes emissions standards testing. Such as a diesel particulate filter and a selective catalyst reduction. Ram 1500 EcoDiesel manufacturer’s estimated best 4×4 highway fuel economy and longest highway driving range with over 950 miles a single tank.

Jeep EcoDiesel

Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel comes with a 3.0-liter engine with an 8 speed automatic transmission. Which gives 260 horsepower and 442 pounds per foot of torque. The 3.0L V-6 turbocharged engine is used in both Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator while having a city mpg of 22 and a highways mpg of 29.

The engine used in the Jeep Wrangler is mostly identical to the engine used in the Ram 1500. It features a Compacted Graphite Iron Block. This CGI engine block provides impressive rigidity to lower vibrations and is structurally sound. Also, it weighs less than traditional Cast Iron blocks resulting in weight savings that help contribute to greater fuel efficiency.

What Is The Ram And Jeep EcoDiesel Warranty

Ram and Jeep EcoDiesel Warranty has a 3 year/36,000 mile basic Extended Warranty. They also each have a 5 year/100,000 mile Powertrain Warranty. The Powertrain Warranty extends your care beyond the 3-year/36,000 mile manufacturer’s coverage and covers your engine, transmission and driveline.

FCA will also give an extended warranty for every vehicle that gets the Approved Emissions Modification. The extended warranty period is 10 years/120,000 miles from the day of sale and 4 years/48,000 miles from the day and miles recorded when installing the Approved Emissions Modification. This is not the same as the Mopar version of the Jeep Extended Warranty or the Ram Extended Warranty.

The Approved Emissions Modification is a software reset that modifies the calibrations in the engine and transmission control units. This is done to fix the slight hesitation or lag in acceleration during the initial five minutes of driving after engine start.

History Of The EcoDiesel

Early Beginnings

The roots of the EcoDiesel can be traced back to the late 20th century when diesel engines were known for their power and fuel efficiency but criticized for their emissions. In response to tightening environmental regulations and growing consumer demand for cleaner vehicles, automakers began exploring ways to enhance the eco-friendliness of diesel engines.

Emergence of the EcoDiesel

The emergence of the EcoDiesel can be attributed to the efforts of automotive engineers and researchers striving for balance between performance and sustainability. The goal was to develop a diesel engine that not only delivered impressive power and fuel efficiency but also minimized harmful emissions, thus aligning with stringent environmental standards.

Technological Advancements

Over the years, significant technological advancements paved the way for the evolution of the EcoDiesel. Innovations in fuel injection systems, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems, and advanced particulate filters played pivotal roles in enhancing the engine’s efficiency while reducing its environmental footprint.

The EcoDiesel Revolution

The turning point for the EcoDiesel came with the introduction of groundbreaking models by leading automotive manufacturers. These vehicles showcased the capabilities of the EcoDiesel engine, offering a compelling combination of power, efficiency, and reduced emissions. As consumer awareness of environmental issues grew, the demand for eco-friendly diesel vehicles surged, further propelling the EcoDiesel revolution.

Conclusion

The history of the EcoDiesel is a testament to the ingenuity and dedication of automotive engineers in addressing the dual challenge of performance and environmental responsibility. From its early beginnings to its current status as a symbol of eco-friendly innovation, the EcoDiesel has come a long way, reshaping the automotive landscape and setting new standards for sustainability in diesel-powered vehicles.

As we look towards the future, the legacy of the EcoDiesel serves as a reminder of the endless possibilities that arise when technology and environmental consciousness intersect, driving us towards a greener and more sustainable tomorrow.
