Jeeps And Ducks

For decades, Jeep owners have had the wave, and now they have a new way to connect with one another. The Jeep ducking tradition is a way to bring smiles to people’s faces and a fun way to make someone’s day with just two things, Jeeps and Ducks.

As a proud Jeep owner, you’re upholding the longstanding tradition that the Jeep brand stands for with its capable, fun, and utility vehicles.

What Is Jeep Ducking

So what do Jeeps and Ducks have to do with each other? Jeep Ducking is a trend in the Jeep Wrangler community. Participants typically carry several rubber ducks in their Jeep so they can put them on fellow Jeep owners vehicles.

When they spot a fellow Jeep Wrangler, they place a duck on the vehicle’s door handle. Many will include a short note or word of encouragement to brighten the driver’s day. It’s a simple act of kindness that can help spread a bit of positivity.

How Did It Get Started?

The origins of Jeep Ducking appear to be June 2020 in Ontario, Canada. A Jeep Wrangler driver, Allison Parliament, visited her family in Canada and purchased a bag of rubber ducks to hide throughout her family’s house for them to find after she left.

A parked Jeep Wrangler caught her eye as she walked out of the shop with the rubber ducks. She grabbed a duck and wrote “Nice Jeep!” on the bottom of the duck and left it on the door handle. The Jeep owner watched her and asked what Allison was doing. She explained the game, and they shared a laugh. This encounter sparked the trend, Allison shares more on her story in an interview with Automoblog.

Allison told a cousin about the encounter and the two dreamed of growing the trend. She created an Instagram account and Facebook page for others to share their random acts of kindness with fellow Jeepers. Their Facebook group has over 68,000 members, and their Instagram account has more than 45,000 followers. It’s a great way to bring a smile to a stranger’s face, one duck at a time.

Also, the hashtag #duckduckjeep has become a huge trend among Jeep owners having more than 200,000 uses on Instagram.

How To Play

The most important part of Jeep Ducking is encouraging kindness, fun, and spreading smiles.

1. Get The Ducks!

If you want to jump on board the trend, grab a bag of rubber ducks and a sharpie. You’ll want to use a permanent marker to give all of your ducks #duckingjeeps and #duckduckjeep tattoos on the bottom.

Duck duck Jeep rubber ducks are available at your local dollar store or you can buy them in bulk from Amazon.

Some people take it far more seriously by matching the color of the duck to the Jeep, handing out seasonal ducks, and working with others in the group to find new and fun ducks.

2. Duck A Jeep

Place the duck on a Jeep, doesn’t matter whether it’s a Jeep Wrangler, Gladiator or Cherokee, and make sure the ducks are visible to the Jeep owner when they are back to their Jeep.

While rubber ducks won’t melt unless exposed to extreme temperatures, it’s a good idea to be mindful of where you place them. You don’t want to damage a fellow Jeepers vehicle or cause unnecessary issues. It’s supposed to be a fun game, but they may not have much fun if you damage their property. If you’re worried about potential damage on your vehicle, see if a Jeep Extended Warranty is right for you.

3. Post It On Social Media

Whether you’re ducking or being ducked, take a picture and post it on your social media pages with the hashtags #DuckingJeeps or #DuckDuckJeep.

What Now?

Now that you know what duck duck Jeep is, grab yourself some rubber ducks, share a happy vibe, and embrace the new way Jeep owners are connecting all over the world using little rubber ducks.

Most people with Jeeps who have been ducked for the first time are saying that they were excited when they found little ducks with messages on their Jeeps. So go ahead and duck a Jeep and have fun while at it!

The Jeep community is a tight-knit group of people. People take pride in owning a Jeep, not only because it is a great vehicle, but because it is a multipurpose vehicle and it has a significant history behind it.

The Wave

The Jeep wave is a friendly greeting between Jeep owners as they drive past each other. While there is supposedly a Jeep wave hierarchy about which driver waves first, the Jeep wave is simply a way to show respect from one fellow Jeeper to another.

We wave because we love our Jeeps and we love how they enable our adventurous lifestyle. To show appreciation to other drivers who share our awesome taste in off-road vehicles. We want to show our camaraderie and respect for others in the Jeep community, especially if they have a particularly sweet Jeep. Giving and getting respect is one of the many perks of Jeep ownership. That’s on top of getting to drive the ultimate vehicle.

There are three leading theories as to what started the Jeep Wave.

#1 Theory: The Jeep wave started back in WWII, when soldiers would wave to one another in solidarity while driving Jeeps on patrol or for transportation.

#2 Theory: The Jeep wave stared after the war, when returning soldiers purchased their first CJ or VJ models and waved to acknowledge one another for their honorable service.

#3 Theory: The wave started much later in the 1960s and 70s, with the advent of off-roading culture as a way to salute another kindred spirit. We find this last theory most probable because many car brand communities have similar waves, especially for relatively rare vehicles.

In the early years, the Jeep wave was mainly the domain of CJ/YJ/TJ owners but has since expanded to any Jeep model, from off-roaders to daily drivers. Now that Jeeps have exploded in popularity, the Jeep wave is the preeminent automobile greeting.

The Jeep Community

Jeeps have become increasingly popular among drivers as functional and aesthetic vehicles. While buying a Jeep, one may be in knowledge of the mileage, model, and year. Still, many are unaware of the community they join when purchasing a Jeep. The best part of the Jeep Life is bringing hundreds of Jeepers together.

Few brands on earth generate as much dedication and commitment as the Jeep® Brand. In every corner of the globe on every day, there are unique displays of passion from our owners and fans. When you’re a part of the Jeep Brand Community, you’re part of something bigger.
