The major crash test organizations have put this pickup truck to a series of tests to determine its safety and reliability. Let’s check out how it performed and what considerations you have to make.

ANCAP Ford Ranger Safety Rating

ANCAP has rated the Ford Ranger consistently well, and this statement applies to both and old models alike.

Ford Ranger pickups built from 2015 to 2022 earned an overall safety rating of five stars on all variants. This model was introduced in Australia and New Zealand in 2015 and subjected to standard tests from the ANCAP to evaluate its safety and occupant protection.

The results show standard safety features, such as dual frontal, side chest, and side head airbags. Since the 2019 models arrived, new features like electronic stability control and electronic brake distribution have been added. Meanwhile, advanced seat belt reminders were also a standard feature, although they weren’t available in the second-row seats.

This model’s frontal offset crash test scored 15.72 out of 16, and the side impact crash tests scored perfect 16. It also earned a perfect rating on the side pole crash tests and seat belt reminders. The whiplash protection is rated good, while the pedestrian protection is acceptable. Overall, it scored 36.72 out of 37.

The Ford Ranger’s crash test rating from ANCAP significantly improved from the previous models, which lacked side thorax airbags and a seat belt reminder on the front passenger side. It scored slightly lower than more recent models, earning a total score of 34.72.

IIHS Ford Ranger Safety Rating

Although the IIHS safety rating on the Ford Ranger did not earn it a Top Safety Pick, this pickup truck did exceptionally on standard testing. The crashworthiness category on the Ford Ranger has an overall evaluation of good, wherein it earned good ratings on the small overlap front (driver-side), moderate overlap front (original test), side crash, and roof strength tests. Meanwhile, it earned acceptable ratings on the small overlap front test (passenger-side) and the update side crash test.

It earned a Superior rating in the crash avoidance and mitigation category, particularly in the front crash prevention for vehicle-to-vehicle collisions. It is rated Advanced for pedestrian crash avoidance during the day and Basic for pedestrian protection at night.
